Friday June 21st

8:30- 9:30 am Coffee, bagels and other treats at campsite 56

Chapel Falls Hike –  We will depart the campground at 9:40 am, with the hike beginning at 10:00 am.

Plan to carpool with us, as the trail head parking lot is small and will not accommodate trailers. Meet at the Chapel Trailhead at 10:00 am, but we are going to carpool from the campground at 9:40 am for as many as possible because the parking lot is small. No room for trailers in this parking lot. US Park Service Ranger Zachary Gostlin has graciously volunteered to lead our hike. We will hike 1.7 miles to Chapel Falls together, then break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch. After lunch, you can hike back with the ranger, or you have the option to continue another 1.2 miles to visit Chapel Rock. Chapel Rock is a spectacular rock formation in the middle of Pictured Rocks cliffs. Although the falls are located nearly 2 miles away from the shoreline, Chapel Rock sits right on Lake Superior. https://www.nps.gov/piro/planyourvisit/upload/beaverchapel-dayhikes.pdf

Chapel Falls is located in the Chapel Basin, which is a very popular hiking area. This hike is considered to be easy. The ranger will discuss the ecology of the area, human history, Leave No Trace principles in national parks and the geology of the waterfalls. This hike may be a little muddy so wear solid water-resistant footwear.

Cocktails and socializing any time after 5:30 pm at campsite 56.

At 7:00 pm, Frida Waara will be giving a presentation on the Isle Royale National Park and the Wolf/Moose study there.

9:15 am Pictured Rocks Boat Tour

Those riding the boat will carpool from Tourist Park at 9:15 for a 10:00 am boat ride. The boat docks are very close to the campground, but there is always a line to board the boats and they leave the dock at 10:00 am. Getting there early is a necessity.
